Good People

This week we said ta-ra to Hilary, one of our senior researchers and someone who started at dxw just a few weeks before me back in 2017. Hilary is one of those folks who can balance fun and getting shit done perfectly. She’s also the dxw chilli sauce queen 🌶 Our loss is Canada’s gain. Fare thee well Hilary!

Good Work

On Wednesday I managed to manufacture a day with only one very short video call, and spent the rest of the day in head-down focused working mode. I’ve not managed to do that in so, so long. More grist for the mill of reorganising my calendar.

Louise and Dawn are planning a “how to work with content designers” session for our next design team forum. A lot of our folks are new to collaborating with content designers, so I think this’ll be a really valuable thing. Hopefully we’ll be able turn it into something that can be shared beyond dxw.

All of our associate designers have been doing an impressive amount of autonomous work lately, running under their own steam and with minimal direction. This is a good indicator of their feeling psychological safety knowing that we have confidence in their ability. They’re also quietly blurring the lines between specialisms which is something I particularly love to see ❤️

Good Stories

Mum had been in hospital for 10 days after some trouble with her breathing but came out on Monday. After a couple of days she was diagnosed with a blood clot in her airway. She was never anything other than complimentary about the care she received but she was stoked to get home and have a proper cup of tea.

I went to London on Thursday, had a lovely lunch (enormous falafel wrap) and churchyard gossip with Louise, and a few pints while setting the world to rights with Dave.
