Work

In the time since my last weeknote, I took seven consecutive days off of work for what felt like the first time in ages. It took two or three days to actually feel the benefits of not being at work. Note to self: consider fewer, longer breaks next year.

I’ve been having an increasingly annoying experience with the vowels on my MacBook Air keyboard either being “unrspnsive” or “oveer reespoonsive” 😅 Having to fix almost every sentence you type is… suboptimal.

Had an epic people + projects meeting, but it’s very satisfying to be placing designers onto a slew of work that will see us well into next year 📈

Life

We’ve been having some landscaping done in the garden. It’s been enjoyable to see the changes happen day by day. I drastically underestimated the amount of milk I would need to keep a team of four in hot brews in the cold weather though ☕️

Before and after

In the last few weeks I’ve spent some time with my brother and sister and our mum & dad. Such time is precious and easily taken for granted. If there’s someone in your life who when you think of them, you think “I haven’t spoken to them in a while”, call (don’t text) them. They miss you too.

I’m really enjoying my new habit of daily, short (3km-ish) runs and pushing myself to run close to my threshold pace. In a moment of reflection weeks ago I realised I never finished my runs completely spent; I would always be keeping something “in the tank”. Simply put, I wasn’t trying as hard as I could. And that annoyed me 🏃

As a consequence of this change in mindset, when I next ran 5km I managed to knock over two minutes off my PB 😎

I’ve also been feeling far fewer of the usual aches and pains I would feel when in a pattern of doing fewer, longer runs 🙌

I was on my own last weekend and decided to spend much of it rewatching all of This Is England. Still such a brilliant film and series. The dinner table scene from ’90 — Autumn was just as powerful as the first time I saw it 😱

This weekend is very very likely to feature The Beatles: Get Back. ✌️
