Good People

F and I had a chat about how we might improve the ways we communicate with each other. Some of our text interactions in Slack have, with shared hindsight, been open to misinterpretation. We’ve scheduled regular check-ins to make sure we’re having the real conversations.

Aoife and I had a lovely intro chat. Another person giving me place envy with their coastal location. Turns out we have a few acquaintances in common from prior engagements in the gov design world. Who would have thought it.

Had a long-overdue catch-up with Kira. We’re both dreaming of holidays. But then, who isn’t… I have recurring mental images of tucking into stuffed peppers and tomatoes washed down with a cold white wine outside a tiny Greek taverna, or hours of ambling through the Jardins del Turia in Valencia.

Good Work

I was finally able to put the first iteration of our updated design career progression framework into Progression. I also joined John in two design workshops for the York & Humber Care Record project, which had a particularly collaborative energy.

Around the team:

  • Chanelle continues to impress her colleagues with her rapid prototyping on the Mind project.
  • Beth has joined another team in a short gap between projects, to look at some new and innovative ways of presenting research findings.
  • Ming, Beth, Israt, Georgina and Louise are doing a bit of interior design for our new shared workspace.

Good Stories

People leaving the starting line at Colchester Castle parkrun
Colchester Castle parkrun — my first, but not my last.

I did my first parkrun. Not a big deal for some, but a goal I set myself 18 months ago when I (re)started the Couch-to-5k plan. I absolutely loved it. Everything people say about parkrun is true; the spirit, the smiles, the supportive nature, the volunteers — all ace.

Lydia used her friend’s new puppy as a weapon of mass destruction against my heart:

How the hell is it nearly August?
